Product Description Seventeen-year-old Alice Bonham's life feels out of control after she meets Jack. With his fondness for pink Chuck Taylors and New Wave hits aside, Jack's unlike anyone she's ever met.
Then she meets his brother, Peter. His eyes pierce through her, and she can barely breathe when he's around. Even though he can't stand the sight of her, she's drawn to him.
But falling for two very different guys isn't even the worst of her problems. Jack and Peter are vampires, and Alice finds herself caught between love and her own blood...

A GREAT READ! August 31, 2010 Ashley Miller (Ventura, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was searching amazon for a new book to read. I came across "My Blood Approves", i read the description and thought why not give it a shot especially for 99cents! I was immediately sucked it! I have since purchased her other books in this series. Amanda makes you fall in love with these characters. If you are looking for something fun to read with a great story line and characters buy this book! you won't be disappointed. I truly enjoyed it.
Interesting Title, Engaging August 31, 2010 Teen Books Reviewer (Omaha) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The title made me read it. Although slower than books I'm used to, Hocking's book about Alice, an ordinary plain girl who meets a guy everyone lusts for, riveted me to keep reading. The slower parts are filler action where Jack hangs out with Alice just talking about video games or old television shows. Halfway through, the action picks up when Alice meets Jack's family, including Peter. Alice and Peter are stricken with undeniable attraction, but Peter treats Alice with such hostility, Alice cries and cries. Sounds strange, but the author's style of writing and command of dialogue keeps you reading to find out why Jack's family is so interested in Alice. Without revealing spoilers, the story captured my interest enough for me to finish the book and move on to the next one readily and eagerly. Sure there are some similarity to the other big vampire film with sparkly vampires, but there are enough differences to make this book stand out by itself.
Real Men Wear Pink August 28, 2010 Ronnell D. Porter (Salt Lake City, UT) My Blood Approves is the story of Alice Bonham's life as it spins out of control. Her friend Jane only cares about sex, drugs, and clubbing. She becomes blatantly aware of her brother's budding same-sex orientation. Her mother is at her wit's end about what to do with Alice and her brother when money is short and the recession hits them hard. Needless to say, Alice has had enough of her problems.
And then she meets Jack Townsend. He's average looking at best, has the attention span of a leech in a blood-bank (perhaps that analogy is a bit more literal than I'd intended it...), assumes that he's always right, and truly believes he's infallible. Most importantly, he's fun. Jack is just what Alice needs in her life, and he does a swell job at keeping Alice distracted with his own secrets.
Alice doesn't realize what sort of darkness lies beneath her newfound friend's skin until she sees his roots for herself. Jack's family has very, very dark secrets, and even insidious patches in their chilling past.
The first in a developing cult phenom, My Blood Approves is a very insightful look into the life of a girl who's falling apart at the seams and doesn't even realize it until it's nearly too late. The real jewels in the book are Alice, Jack, and Peter, around whom the plot revolves.
Alice is a likeable girl who treads the perfect line of a book character; naive enough to make you infuriated with her at times, but witty enough to make you laugh. Jack is a brash, cheeky, obnoxiously pushy and self-assertive youth who's still coming to grips with his own dealt hand in life. And Peter... Best not to give away too much here.
A great start! August 27, 2010 HP Mallory (Ventura, CA) This is a great start to what appears to be a very engaging series!
I really enjoyed the character of Alice and I loved the fact that I couldn't predict what would happen in the book. At one point I'd think Alice would take one action but she didn't and it kept me on my feet the entire time.
The pace was great--quick and never a dull moment and I had trouble putting it down at night.
The conversations and Alice's inner thoughts are all very believable and the writing really allowed you to see right into Alice's head.
I love the character of Milo, Alice's brother. He was probably my favorite of the characters because he is just so...good. And the triangle between Jack and Peter was fantastic. I just couldn't make up my mind on who I thought she should go after! And I'm sooo excited to read book two to find out what happens.
Definitely read this book because you won't be able to put it down!
Off to read book 2!
Very good a-la-Twilight! August 26, 2010 L. Kim (Hong Kong) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Loved it! Read in 1 sitting. Written in 1st person POV, about an ordinary high school girl with delicious scented blood, she falls in love with 2 hot guys from a loving vampire family who live in a big beautiful house with breathtaking views. The setting may be similar to Meyer's, but the story is all new and captivating. Good and gripping page turner. Must read for Twilight fans!
