Decent August 30, 2010 Missy W (North Carolina, USA) Ever (original name, no?) survives a tragic accident that claims the lives of her father, mother, pet dog and twelve-year old sister, Riley. Unfortunately, Riley didn't actually cross over like the rest of her family (save Ever), so now she spends most of her time around Ever, or catching up on old neighbors and their gossip. Ever, now orphaned, is taken in by her father's twin sister - who is a lawyer and immediately gives Ever all that she could need to make herself feel more at home - tv, jacuzzi, stereo, the works. However, Ever would give it all back to have her family back. Not only does she have to start her life over in a new place, but she seems to have received psychic powers from her near-death experience. She can see auras, read people with just a touch and, worse of all, she hears everyone's thoughts. It's too much for Ever. She used to be popular at her old school and now - armed with her iPod on full blast to drown out the thoughts and hooded sweatshirts to conceal her mp3 player - she's considered a freak, only finding solace in her attention-craved, now goth, friend Haven and token gay friend Miles. That is, until she meets Damen. She's already heard about him, but she avoided eye contact with him when he sat beside of her in class. Then, there was the silence. Anytime Damen touched her, all she heard was silence. Damen has taken an interest in Ever - but who is this new girl, Drina, that she's seen him out with? And why is this new girl trying to take her best friend away from her? Ever didn't think it could get any worse ... until she found out that Damen is an immortal, and Drina's trying to kill her in order to get Damen back.
This is one of those books that I got a while back in order to get over my vampire obsession. I figured I could still do paranormal, but I needed to expand my horizons. The cover attracted me and I had heard a lot of things about it, but nothing overly great. I still picked it up, but I didn't get around to it until now. Thanks to my friend, I got a little hooked on the Harper Connelly Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris. Whoops. However, I'm hearing wonderful things about Shadowland and I really want to read it - so, what better place to start than the first in the series? It's just something I absolutely have to do - if I start a series, I start from the very beginning. Now, the story starts out okay. It drags out a little, and you have to read a while for some of the good stuff to happen. However, the filler that really kept me reading was Riley - Ever's sister that didn't cross over. She's a wonderful character. I just wish I could say the same about the others. I found the secondary characters not all that well developed. To be honest, Haven got on my last nerve with her attention-whoring ways. Of course, I never really did like anyone who changed who they were to get someone's attention. And Miles ... he's gay ... his character could have been wonderful in so many ways! But instead, he just came around in the story to add his two cents here and there, and he really felt like a filler to be ... but a filler in a bad way, not good like Riley. Ever could have been a little better as a main character. She just seemed so indecisive about everything and sometimes so needy when it came to Damen and her sister. The plot was good. I did like the story. Overall, the story was well-written, I just wish the characters were fleshed out a little better.
Awesome read! August 25, 2010 Erica I could not wait to get my hands on Evermore! I had read Alyson Noel's other books, and could not wait to read another! I absolutely loved it! I read straight through this one.
The world Noel created was fascinating. It was exciting and kept you interested. The writing was great, you really felt like you were with Ever.
Ever's character was intriguing. I could really feel for her, what she was going through. Damen was interesting, but you did not find out as much about him or feel for him as much. Not much of a backstory was given, but maybe that's to come? Miles was one of my favorite characters. Something about him was just very agreeable. Haven was a great character. She was different and realistic. Drina was interesting as well, but there could have maybe been a bit more to her.
I thought the cover was absolutely beautiful.
I simply cannot wait for Blue Moon, book 2 in the Immortal Series. I read the preview in the back of Evermore, and it sounds just amazing!
Also, I'd just like to add this. I've heard so many comparisons of Evermore to Twilight, and I really do not get it. They are completely different. Everything these days is compared to Twilight...

So, my friend who dropped off all those House of Night books to me the other day also dropped off all The Immortal Series books as well. I am the type of reader that if I like a book, I am finishing it fast because I cannot put it down, and if I have to do something else, I am thinking of ways I can get back to reading that book. That is how I felt about this book, it took me by surprise actually because I stayed up until 1:00 am on Saturday reading this book not even realizing how late it was. One of the big things, for me at least, to get into a book is to relate to or have a likable main character and I really like Ever. She has been through a lot, she lost all of her family in one day and now lives with her aunt who is a lawyer working long hours so she is alone, a lot. After the accident she also hears everyone's thoughts around her and has no "off" switch to get all of it out of her head, so she copes with loud music blaring in her ear and hoodies to hide herself in. My heart really went out to the poor girl. She does have some friends helping her out, Miles and Haven, who in spite of Ever's quirks are there to support her. I really liked Miles and he made me laugh throughout the book, but Haven really got on my nerves, she is a lost soul herself and is easily swayed by Drina, who is a mystery just like Damen. Drina is a huge influence in Haven's life and whenever she comes into the picture Haven is quick to blow off her friends for Drina. It just bothered me that she so easily dismissed Ever and Miles for someone she barley knows.
Damen is definitely a mystery for almost the entire book and I found myself frustrated that I could not figure out what was going on with him. I know that the title of the series does give some insight, but the how's and why's are not really answered until the end. I loved how Damen was able to calm Ever and knew exactly where to take her to help her forget her troubles and just have fun. The two of them have great chemistry and watching the tension between them progress throughout the book was exciting to watch. The only thing that bothered me a little was at the end of the book I think things moved a little quickly and I felt like there were more things that needed explaining that were left unanswered, but hopefully those answers will come as the series progresses.
Overall I really liked this book, I felt like the book was not just about the love story, it was also about Ever dealing with her grief, losing loved ones and how she copes with that loss. However, I still loved the relationship between Damen and Ever and look forward seeing their story continue in Blue Moon
Ever more.... August 18, 2010 Jessss (Mountain) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Oregon is nice and beautiful beyond great description, and it's filled with plenty of forest for any hikers dream. The unfortunate side sometimes is all the wildlife which is what causes a wreck when a deer runs in front of Ever's parents' car. The wreck leaves Ever all alone with a loss of both parents, her sister, and their dog. We pick up with Ever while she's still coping. The lucky side is because of this accident, she gets some new traits and abilities that lets her read emotions, see things, and hear things that she couldn't before. Whereas this can be daunting and a lot to handle because if the sheer size of Laguna Beech and that area with all the people crammed in, she has her sisters ghost to keep her company and remind her she's not really alone. Then, one day while she's got her routine down, in walks amazing Damen and who world flips again. Through many events - some funny, some sad, some happy, and some more tears - we watch as Ever struggles to accept her life now and let go of things that need to be let go of.
It's a good start to what can be a promising series. The characters are well written and leave you wanting to get to know them better and find out more of this immortal world where people can think things into being. I was stressed the entire time about what Ever would do in Damens case and all that it would entail. The writer wrote it as a page turner and I literally couldn't put it down.
Evermore August 14, 2010 Z. M. (Utah, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was in desperate need of a good book. I ran to the store and Evermore looked promising. I sat down and read the first chapter and I felt satisfied with it. I bought it and took it home and settled in for a long night of reading. It turns out that the book is completely different from the first chapter. I dealt with it and kept going. Much to my disappointment, this book wasn't fulfilling my needs. There amazing parts to it, and it was indeed original. But it was a lot like the other generic books floating around. It had really good aspects, but I couldn't get a grip on the plot or the character. There wasn't really a plot to begin with. There was some sort villain, but it wasn't really clear to begin with. Mainly the dilemma was the fact that the main character started to like someone. Indeed she was no average person. Ever is extremely physic and an orphan to boot. So it was a big deal for her to like someone. But that's what the book was. With my personality I began to go crazy. The character didn't have much of a personality. In the book it is mentioned numerous times that she used to have a personality. All of this was before she became physic however. After that, the character is dull. I couldn't help thinking that she was some sort of alien. Her life is pretty easy after becoming physic. She does her homework instantly and knows things about people just by meeting them. True that would be a bit hard to work around, but our main character is a bit of martyr. She lives with her rich aunt and her dead sister visits her constantly. She only has two friends, but that a choice rather than something she was forced into; I finished the book in hopes that it would get better. I can say that, yes, at the very end a lot of problems were concluded. There was a big battle at the end. But I can also say that these didn't capture my interest. This book didn't make me think or evaluate anything. It was just a book. I read much like I would a textbook.
