Product Description When Abbey's best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone else is all too quick to accept that Kristen is dead…and rumors fly that her death was no accident. Abbey goes through the motions of mourning her best friend, but privately, she refuses to believe that Kristen is really gone. Then she meets Caspian, the gorgeous and mysterious boy who shows up out of nowhere at Kristen's funeral, and keeps reappearing in Abbey's life. Caspian clearly has secrets of his own, but he's the only person who makes Abbey feel normal again...but also special. Just when Abbey starts to feel that she might survive all this, she learns a secret that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her best friend. How could Kristen have kept silent about so much? And could this secret have led to her death? As Abbey struggles to understand Kristen's betrayal, she uncovers a frightening truth that nearly unravels her—one that will challenge her emerging love for Caspian, as well as her own sanity. “Spectacular! The Hollow keeps you reading from beginning to end without coming up for air.” --L.J. Smith, bestselling author of The Vampire Diaries and Night World

Fascinating and Enagaging Book September 7, 2010 S. Stowe (Arkansas) I am really surprised that the reviews on this aren't higher than 3 1/2 stars. I found "The Hollow" to be an excellent story with "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" story complementing the story-not being the story. Caspian and Abigail's relationship is written beautifully and keeps you turning the pages to find out more of their story. The mystery of how/why Abigail's best friend, Kristen died is very well written keeping you wondering about details even at the end of the book (I am hoping more is answered on that in "The Haunted"). And Ms. Verday's descriptions of feelings in certain situations makes you really connect with the characters. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading "The Haunted".
Nice Beginning to the Series August 20, 2010 Jana Greer (Los Angeles, CA) Abbey Browning's best friend Kristen disappears and is presumed dead, but Abbey won't let her go. She believes Kristen is still alive. However, she has to go on alone and it's a struggle. Then she meets Caspian, he seems perfect. He's there for her. He gives her gifts. He's wonderful and he makes her feel alive. But Caspian has deep secrets and Abbey wants to find out what they are. She also wants to find out what happened to Kristen and little does she know the answers to these questions just may be something she never could have imagined.
It was easy for me to find myself in Abbey's shoes. I found her to be a very sympathetic character, who cares about other people, though sometimes she grated on me a bit, but not enough to keep me away from the next book in the series.
I also liked the fact that the story took place in Sleep Hollow. I saw and felt the cemetery and the characters therein, just as I'm sure the author wanted me too. The novel had a nice spooky tone to it that sort of ripples through you as your read. As a beginning to a series I think it did a fine job and it worked pretty well as a standalone novel as well. I enjoyed it. And I really liked the ending, despite the fact that I felt there were a lot of loose ends. However, it seems there are a couple more books on the way that well tie those up.
If you like frustrating & confusing endings this novel is for you. July 27, 2010 janxcdlily When I first started reading this novel I found myself intrigued by the description on the jacket cover, then midway through the book I began to wonder where the author was going with the story and as I made myself read through the ending I found I was a little disgusted with myself and the author. I was upset at myself for wasting a perfectly rainy afternoon reading this novel & disgusted with the author for coming up with a story that made absolutely no sense at all.
I am confident this will be a great series July 26, 2010 acsimps 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Hollow was a book that I read a while back (Nov 2009). So I had to flip through it to jog my memory on some of the finer points of the book. Another bonus to this is that it is preparing me for the next book in the series "The Haunted," which is set to release August 31, 2010!
I did enjoy this book; my one complaint is that I feel like we are left with too many questions. As I have already mentioned this is a series so let me say that it is always important to leave the readers wanting more, but The Hollow just kind of ends. I think I literally said "That's it?" out loud after reading the last page. The potential for the overall story is very good. I thought the plot was great and Abby was easy to relate to.
The story starts in the aftermath of Abby's best friend's death/disappearance. Kristen and Abby were inseparable until Kristen vanished from the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Even though the town has pronounced her dead Abby refuses to believe that her best friend is really gone. After the funeral Abby meet Caspian. Caspian is mysterious and gorgeous and to Abby's surprise he seems to be fascinated by her. Abby begins meeting Caspian by the river in hopes of finding out what he may be hiding and for the sheer thrill of being with him.
While searching for answers Abby is met with even more questions. Who was Kristen meeting the night she vanished? Why was she keeping secrets from Abby? And the answers that she does find could shatter her assumptions about who she is and the world she lives in.
I hope that the next books explains more about what happened to her best friend, what is the deal with Caspian, and why she is important to him. I know the series as a hole will be good (I am truly confident in that) but this book on its own left me frustrated. Don't let that discourage you from reading it through because the writer is good and I am confident she will deliver a great series.

Basically nothing happens in this book June 14, 2010 Ashley Berthel (Louisville, KY United States) Basically nothing happens in this book. Abbey's friend dies before the book starts, so she spends most of the book being depressed. BTW she has NO other friends what so ever. She meets a guy... that goes no where. The 400-500 pages of this book are filled with going to relatives houses, or hanging out with her parents, or being in a cemetery. There is no big plot, no climax, no mystery, you sort of wonder about the guy. This book does not contain any of the essentials that one learns in school about how to write a story. I really have no clue why this book was published. I am going to read the next one just because there had to be a point to these 500 pages that I am just not getting.
