Product Description A True Ghost Story "You leave us alone; we'll leave you alone." When Elaine Mercado and her first husband bought their home in Brooklyn, N. Y., in 1982, they had no idea that they and their two young daughters were embarking on a thirteen-year nightmare. Within a few days of moving in, Elaine and her older daughter began to experience the sensation of being watched. Then came scratching noises and weird smells, followed by voices whispering, maniacal laughter, shadowy figures scurrying along baseboards, and small balls of light bouncing along the ceilings. From the beginning of the haunting, "suffocating dreams" were experienced by everyone except the younger daughter. These eventually accelerated to physical aggression directed at Elaine and both the girls. This book is the true story of how one family tried to cope with living in a haunted house. It also describes how, with the help of parapsychologist Dr. Hans Holzer and medium Marisa Anderson, the family discovered the tragic and heartbreaking secrets buried in the house at Grave's End. I struggle to open my eyes, but achieve nothing but frustration and failure. I am not asleep. I am fully conscious, in a state of panic unthinkable during the day intolerable in the dark of night, held prisoner by some tortured, invisible presence, insistent on abruptly invading my slumber. The more I struggle toward freedom, the more I am pushed into the mattress, perspiring, heart palpitating, a scream involuntarily silenced within my throat. Some nights I experience my skin being stroked while I fight to regain control of my body, my sight. Thank God, this was not one of those nights. Tonight it lets me open my eyes, shaken but unviolated, frightened, but not as frightened as I know I can become. Boring September 6, 2010 N. Stone (USA) Throughout the entire book the author refers to her husband as her husband. She never mentions him by name. I found it rather annoying. The explanation of paranormal experiences are repetitive to the point where I skipped through various chapters and paragraphs in order to get to the meat of the story. I finaly got to the chapter where the mediums come in and clean the house. End of story. Overall the book was boring.
Scary, and True! July 5, 2010 M. Drane This particular book had been referred to me several times. My home is haunted and in order to get a grasp on it, several paranormal researchers told me to read this book. After being told for what seemed like the 1,000th time, I finally read it. It was very good, and enlightening. I admire the people in the book for not running at the first sign something was not quite right about the house. It made me realize that people don't have to be afraid of spirits, well the good ones at least. I would recommend this book to anyone experiencing paranormal activity, or just wants a terrific, TRUE, story to read!

I have owned this book for a while and have actually read it several times because it is just so good. THis is a true story of a family who moved into a haunted house. Every time I read this book I just can't put it down. It's absolutely worth your time reading.
Realistic Tale of A True Haunting June 7, 2010 Noone (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Elaine Mercado did an excellent job telling her story. At no point did the paranormal occurances she described seem over-the-top. I've read many books on "true hauntings", some of which have struck me as ridiculous. Not the case with Elaine's book. I found it very believable. I can't say that the story frightened me or "creeped me out". It didn't. However, it was a very interesting read and I became thoroughly absorbed in her tale. More than anything, Ms. Mercado's story focuses on the stress a family may suffer while living with a haunting -- the embarassment and shame that often comes along with letting the outside world know. I found Ms. Mercado all the more credible because she didn't seem to buy into everything she was told by the medium who offered her assistance. All in all, this was an excellent book. I'd definitely recommend.
